Amazonian Spores
Amazonian. Straight out of the rainforest. Well, sort of.
Amazonian is one of the better-known names associated with Psilocybe cubensis. It has been around the mushroom community for years and has become a familiar entry in collections of cubensis strains.
The name suggests a jungle pedigree. The reality is a little more complicated.
That’s mushrooms for you.
A classic Psilocybe cubensis strain
Amazonian refers to a cultivated strain or lineage associated with Psilocybe cubensis.
And that’s worth clearing up.
Psilocybe cubensis is the species. Amazonian is the strain name.
Strain names aren’t the same thing as formal scientific classifications. They’re commonly used to distinguish particular lines or collections within a species, but the terminology isn’t always perfectly consistent.
So when you see Amazonian, think of it as a name attached to a particular P. cubensis lineage rather than a separate species.

Why Amazonian?
Because sometimes you want something a little different.
Amazonian has earned its place among the familiar P. cubensis strain names, alongside names such as Golden Teacher, B+ and PE6.
If you’re building a microscopy collection, it’s an interesting one to have on the slide.
Microscopy & research
Mushroom spores are tiny, but there’s plenty to look at.
Under magnification, spores can be examined for characteristics such as their shape, size, colour and surface features. Comparing material from different named strains can make for an interesting look at fungal diversity and variation.
That’s the whole point.
Look closer.
For microscopy and research purposes only. Not for human consumption or cultivation.
