PE6 isn’t a separate species.

The species is Psilocybe cubensis. PE6 is the name used to distinguish a particular line within it.

Mushroom terminology can get a little messy. Strain names aren’t formal taxonomic ranks, and the history behind individual names isn’t always perfectly documented.

That’s part of what makes P. cubensis such an interesting subject for microscopy.
